Ikon's webpage is being updated.
Hi everybody!
FYI. A student just came up to ask me about printing from their personal computer. I directed them to Ikon's website for instructions. HOWEVER, it seems Ikon's webpage is undergoing maintenance today so a lot of links are not working (including the link to instructions for downloading drivers). I called Ikon and they said that we could send students down to their little corner of the library for help during these troubling times. They estimated that the website would be back up and running as good as new by tomorrow... We'll see.
EDIT: In addition to contacting Ikon by phone, a Ikon employee stopped by the desk and said if we had any issues we could also contact a manager-type at this e-mail address: norman.gibson@ricoh-usa.com

The DART machine in Core 3...
...is down. There's a note on it indicating that a service call was made on July 26. If anyone knows anything about it, please comment, but I'll get in touch with IKON.
The Study in B110
Debbie got the scoop regarding what's going on in B110 with The Study. Thanks, Debbie! Apparently it's not going to be a drop-in clinic -- see Associate Director Jim Breslin's note:

InfoKat, WorldCat Local, and Ebooks
Here's an InfoKat/WCL update from Sarah (thanks, Sarah!):
I talked to Rob this morning seeking clarification regarding how long InfoKat will be around and certain problems I’ve encountered while searching the new UK Libraries Local site and here’s what I now know:
InfoKAT is not going away. The library will be running both InfoKat and the new WorldCat Local/University of Kentucky Local catalogs simultaneously for the foreseeable future.
However, there are some “glitches” to be aware of : some e-book links that work in InfoKat do not work in WCL/UKL -- the Gale Virtual Reference Library items are the ones I discovered as I was updating my LibGuide pages. There also appears to be a problem with the Knovel e-books.
Judy Sackett recently sent an email soliciting volunteers for the new World Cat Local working group and it’s been suggested that when we discover something that doesn’t work correctly in WCL, to keep documentation and send it along to the committee once it convenes.
As other problems or glitches are discovered, please post. It may help to curb the confusion.

And This Is The Last We Want to Hear About It
From Judy Sackett:
First, the good news: none of the insect specimens that have been reported and inspected by the pest control people since the first incident have turned out to be bedbugs.
UK Physical Plant Division and the contracted pest control company are working together to develop a protocol for dealing with bedbug reports, bedbugs, etc. In the meantime, if a suspected bedbug is seen or reported, please first try to put it into an envelope or a container it can't escape from, if it is still alive. Note the location and send both Terri Brown and me an email describing the event; deliver the critter/s to one of us. We will contact PPD, and they will contact OPC Pest Control.

If applicable, cover the chair or desk area to discourage others from sitting in the location until it can be inspected.
I have flyers from OPC that were handed out at the information session last Thursday. Please contact me if you'd like one/some, or if you have questions about this procedure. Thank you.

E-Resources Problems?
From Stephanie Aken:
Do we have a list-serv for you! To ask or forward questions, or to report a problem about electronic books, journals, or database access (not searching questions/instruction), please use LIB-ER@LSV.UKY.EDU. This should improve response time, especially when I am away from my desk or out of the office. You may hear from Esta Day, Josh Harris, or David Powell (or me).
Changes to NYT Access
The current edition of the New York Times is no longer available through Newsbank apparently. I have added a note to SFX and Rob has added one to the link in the Electronic Resources list.
Please note that we continue to have the following electronic full-text access options for the New York Times:

WorldCat Identities
Just found out from Barb Hale that WorldCat Identities is now in beta. It has a summary information page for every name (30 million or so) in WorldCat.

Patricia will be supervised by Peter Hesseldenz and be stationed in the desk next to him, formerly occupied by Bridget. Patricia has a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Florida and a Master's degree in Forestry from UK, for which she wrote a thesis entitled "Habitat Selection of the Cerulean Warbler in Eastern Kentucky." She began work on her Library Science degree this summer. In addition to her student position here, she is also currently working at the Northside Branch of the Lexington Public Library.
